October garden

I have decided we should do another parallel blog…gardens. My first pictures are from late spring when everything is just starting to grow. A few plants like Wisteria go hard early in the season.

Early abundance

and strawberries start to form tiny fruit

the first strawberry flowers

thrifty gardeners plant seed and try to get potatoes in as early as they dare

seedlings take forever

Daring the late frosts

new planting works around the winter spinach

winter veges are still welcome

The lemon tree braved the hardest winter frosts

lemons are the greatest fruit trees

Other fruit burst back to life

Raspberries just starting to flower

brave little seedlings from direct sown seed

parsnips

beetroot

The first summer flowers

early roses

and the last of the spring flowers

camellia

and spring blossom magically transforming itself into summer fruit

Tiny cherries. Not as pretty as blossom but full of potential

Habitat for man and beast

Campbell sees all

especially chickens

Interesting choice of parsnips and beetroot! Do you guys eat much of those?

Campbell is resplendent in his heft. He is so mafioso. And the chickens? Still so cute.

We eat lots of parsnips. They are delicious cooked in cream and grated nutmeg, and then mashed. Haven’t eaten beetroot in ages. Not planning on preserving it in vinegar, just going to eat it as roasted baby beets

Hmmm. I will give that way of cooking parsnips a try. They are pretty tasty as a roasted vegetable.

    Nutmeg is my catnip
